Professional ceiling fan installation and safe bracing in Eugene, OR. Wobble-free mounting by Checkpoint Electric.
Ceiling fans improve comfort and lower energy costs. However, heavy fans require specialized ceiling boxes and braces to prevent dangerous wobbling or falls.
Safety is our priority. We never hang a fan on a standard light box; we always reinforce the structure for total peace of mind.
Ceiling fans are one of the most effective and energy-efficient ways to improve home comfort, but they are also one of the most commonly improperly installed electrical fixtures in American homes. The critical issue is weight and dynamic load: a quality ceiling fan can weigh 30 to 50 pounds and generates significant vibration and torque as its blades rotate. A standard electrical light box is rated to support only 35 pounds of static weight and is not designed to handle the dynamic loads of a spinning fan. When a ceiling fan is hung on an inadequate box, the constant vibration gradually loosens the mounting hardware, leading to wobbling, excessive noise, and in the worst cases, the fan falling from the ceiling entirely. Oregon's building codes require that ceiling fans be mounted on fan-rated electrical boxes that are specifically designed and tested to support the dynamic loads of a rotating fan. For fans heavier than 35 pounds, a brace kit must also be installed between the ceiling joists to provide additional structural support. Checkpoint Electric LLC never cuts corners on fan mounting — we always verify the ceiling structure, install the correct fan-rated box, and perform a thorough wobble test before we consider the job complete.
