Lutron Lighting Control & Smart Dimmers

Lutron: The World Leader in Lighting Control for Over 60 Years

Lutron Electronics was founded in 1961 by Joel Spira, who invented the first solid-state dimmer switch and revolutionized residential lighting control. Over the past six decades, Lutron has maintained its position as the world leader in lighting control technology, and in 2026 its Caseta Wireless system remains the most reliable and widely installed smart dimmer platform in the residential market. What makes Lutron Caseta uniquely valuable compared to competing smart switch brands is its proprietary Clear Connect radio frequency technology, which operates on a dedicated 434 MHz frequency that is completely separate from the crowded 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi band used by most smart home devices. This means Lutron switches are immune to the Wi-Fi congestion and interference that causes competing smart switches to become unresponsive. Lutron Caseta also works without a neutral wire, making it compatible with older Oregon homes that have two-wire switch loops — a limitation that prevents most other smart switch brands from being installed. Lutron's system supports up to 75 devices per Smart Bridge, integrates natively with Apple HomeKit, Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, and most major smart home platforms, and is backed by Lutron's industry-leading customer support. Checkpoint Electric LLC is a certified Lutron installer.
